CHRISTMAS 2016 IN COCO

CHRISTMAS 2016 IN COCO

December 25th 2016 in Coco, our second  Christmas in a warm country. This one was spent in Central America, Playa Del Coco, Costa Rica. A very small town, also fishing village in the province of Guanacaste, located on the Pacific side, bordering Nicaragua.
We spent our morning and early afternoon in search of what is typical here on Christmas day. It was a glorious morning like all other mornings, sunny 28 degrees Celsius. It started off with a quiet walk on the beautiful horseshoe shaped, 3 kilometres long greyblack sand beach. Some of the locals, also known as Ticos, where already there, enjoying a family swim. We had a simple breakfast in a charming waterfront beach cafe, and watched the world go by for a while. Although we enjoy their local national dish, which consist of rice and black beens served with a side of scrambled eggs, we opted for eggs, toast and pancakes, the Canadian way. It was a perfect morning. As the day progressed, a wave of mostly locals started to flood the beach. Families, friends, joyfully carrying coolers and boxes of goodies for a beach picnic. Yes, with their own version of Frito-Lays and Orange Crush. Children swimming, playing in the sand. Teens playing "foot ball" or soccer as we know it and the big boys going fishing. Villagers, vacationer, also gathered in the beach park, adorned by... you guessed it, "The Christmas Tree". Last but not least, on our pathway home, we came across a small pack of Howler Monkeys. They are easily heard all across this country, but much harder to see. Camera in hand and ready, I finally capture them. What a nice Christmas present!
Enjoy!
