April has arrived and with it, came the clouds and a much greater humidity index. Slowly but surely, the rain season is becoming more noticeable. Definitively time to start thinking about going home. We've experienced an earthquake, walked in a rain forest, picked our own mango fruit right off the tree, learned how to hail a taxi, ride the buses like the locals and much more. Travelling is so educational, like learning that the sun does not always rise to the East and set to the West. I am not kidding. Look it up. I still didn't wrap that one around my head. No wonder, we where all confused about our sense of direction two years ago, when we first visited Panama. It's all about the dominant feature of the country's land form and shape that makes up the continental divide. It is also the only place in the world, where you can get in your car and be at two oceans, both Pacific and Atlantic on the very same day. Having experienced days after days of 33 plus degrees celsius, I am soon returning to North America, with a new appreciation for adequate hydration and afternoon siestas.
Coronado Bay, is a popular Condo and vacation development area, where we spent part of winter 2017. Located on the Pacific side, right on the beaches of the Gulf of Panama, we enjoyed the pristine black sand beaches it offered, including being stung by what we think, are mini jelly fishes. Not fair, you can't see them coming at you. Approximately one hour away by car or bus from Panama City, Coronado Bay, is one of Panama's first resort development that has pretty well every amenities, one person would need, making it a desired rental area. The cost of living here is very affordable, but again everything is in US currency, a harsh reality for Canadian travellers.
The longer I am here, the more I realize it is not that small of a town. I tried to find numbers, and all I found for population, was that Coronado has 3,000 to 4,000 Expats and they count for 30 % of the population. Good enough for me.
Our accommodation here, is clean, comfortable, modern and spacious. The condo tower we are renting, is a true water front and has a resort flair with pools, courtyards, social areas and security. We have a corner unit on the tenth floor, overlooking some part of the ocean with mostly a mountain view, displaying the typical landscape of Panama, which consist of multiple mountain chains, that transverses the country, with wooded lowlands, slopes, plains and valleys. Having our unit on the mountain side, we unfortunately had to put up literally with "howling winds" which are the land breeze or should I say, almost hurricane force winds, that are normal here, between mid December and mid March, the dry season. This being said, most of the time, we struggled to have our windows open, as it would knock down the pictures off the walls and made it uncomfortable to even sit on the balcony, attempt to BarBQ or dine "Alfresco". On the positive side, it took care of bugs, and offered a good breeze to hinder the heat.
I have more topics for my blog in the works to conclude our travels in South America, which I am scrambling to get done before our migration North.
I hope the photos I have chosen gives a good feel of Coronado Bay. Enjoy!
