SIMPLY MONKEYS !
Howler Monkeys , Capuchins and Spider Monkeys ! How fun is it to see monkeys in the wild. More fun than "A barrel of monkeys". These little creatures are all native of Central or South America and we had the opportunity to see them while visiting Costa Rica and Nicaragua. To my surprise, each one of them was given their names for their colour or features. The Howler Monkey is my favourite. They are so cute, we saw and heard them often, as we literally had them for neighbours in Coco Beach. Of course their name "Howlers" is very descriptive. They are famous for their loud howls that can be heard as far as 4.8 km. We heard them mostly at dawn and at dusk. They howl to protect their territory which consist of their own large canopy tree or for guarding their mates. Great thing that they sleep 15 hours a day, or else they would be a real nuisance.
As for the Capuchin Monkey, this little one got it's name for its brown colour, and tan face, looking like Franciscan Priests, the Capuchin Monks in their long brown robes and large head hoods.
For the Spider Monkey it is their long limbs that gives them their spider name.
Hope you enjoy the few photos I have captured, as much as we enjoyed seeing them!
