CHRISTMAS 2016 IN COCO

CHRISTMAS 2016 IN COCO

December 25th 2016 in Coco, our second  Christmas in a warm country. This one was spent in Central America, Playa Del Coco, Costa Rica. A very small town, also fishing village in the province of Guanacaste, located on the Pacific side, bordering Nicaragua.
We spent our morning and early afternoon in search of what is typical here on Christmas day. It was a glorious morning like all other mornings, sunny 28 degrees Celsius. It started off with a quiet walk on the beautiful horseshoe shaped, 3 kilometres long greyblack sand beach. Some of the locals, also known as Ticos, where already there, enjoying a family swim. We had a simple breakfast in a charming waterfront beach cafe, and watched the world go by for a while. Although we enjoy their local national dish, which consist of rice and black beens served with a side of scrambled eggs, we opted for eggs, toast and pancakes, the Canadian way. It was a perfect morning. As the day progressed, a wave of mostly locals started to flood the beach. Families, friends, joyfully carrying coolers and boxes of goodies for a beach picnic. Yes, with their own version of Frito-Lays and Orange Crush. Children swimming, playing in the sand. Teens playing "foot ball" or soccer as we know it and the big boys going fishing. Villagers, vacationer, also gathered in the beach park, adorned by... you guessed it, "The Christmas Tree". Last but not least, on our pathway home, we came across a small pack of Howler Monkeys. They are easily heard all across this country, but much harder to see. Camera in hand and ready, I finally capture them. What a nice Christmas present!
Enjoy!

BLUENOSE ll

BLUENOSE ll

Our beautiful beloved Bluenose ll, a very important part of our Canadian Heritage, just as symbolic to us as the Maple Leaf and the Beaver. She has been photographed by millions and is proudly displayed on our Canadian dime, from a photo taken by the famous photographer Wallace MacAskill, native of St Peter's, NS. Recently rebuilt at a very costly price to the Nova Scotians, she is a magnificent Schooner, no longer used for trade but for touring and for the enjoyment of the people.
We were blessed with a close encounter with this vessel on July 16, 2016. The day could of not been more perfect. Calm seas and just a glorious summer early afternoon. We waited for her just out of Maskells Harbour. Watched her coming out of Baddeck, NS. She had a great party of Canadian war vessels keeping her company that day, all coming out of the St Andrews Channel. Three vessels, one of them the Warrior Summerside. I guess their mission for that day, was to show off the Bluenose ll to their crew and do just as we did, have a little photography session.
We sailed to her starboard side, while some of the crew and guests were having a great of a time, jumping off her deck and pulpit, for what I presume was a very refreshing swim.
JP had a short talk on our VHF radio with the Captain, Phillip Watson, while I was having some FaceTime with our daughter and two of our grand children from Alberta. A totaly cool experience for all of us, including the captain. He thought it was "Awesome" too.
I have compiled my favourite photos of the day. The last one, was captured through the opening of the Grand Narrows Bridge.
 Enjoy!

FAVOURITE SUMMER PHOTOS 2016

FAVOURITE SUMMER PHOTOS, 2016

Here is a little gallery of my favourite photos taken last summer. Some where taken by the Shediac Bay water front, were we rented a cottage there in New Brunswick last spring. Some of you will recognize the sailing vessels, like Chiquita. Other photos where taken while sailing in the Bras D'Or Lakes, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The last seven photos where taken on August 10th, as we came around into the Baddeck Bay on board the Winged Spirit and unknowingly got caught up under sail in the Baddeck Regatta. Fun and exciting!
Enjoy!
